AltaSteel in the Community
Our commitment to the community as an employer
AltaSteel employs over 300 people. We're supporting the growth of Alberta's skilled trades labor force by attracting mechanics, welders, electricians, millwrights, machinists, and crane operators—just to name a few.
We are committed to fostering the belief amongst all employees and contractors that an injury-free workplace can be achieved. Further, with the commitment of all, that an injury-free workplace will be achieved.
Our commitment to the community as a participant in local commerce
Altasteel is a strong supporter of local business.
Fun Fact: Between 2020-2022, 79% of the steel AltaSteel produced was shipped domestically to Canadian businesses—supporting mining, construction, structural, agricultural, and oil & gas industries.
We are proud to provide quality steel to our customers throughout Canada, the USA, and Mexico. Our supply chains allow for a community that transcends geographical location and enables us to provide the material to help build other communities around the world.
Our commitment to the community's environment
Our site and our community both benefit from environmental preservation. To reduce the impact on the local region, we monitor and manage the air and water quality. As part of our compliance program, we maintain a network of extensive groundwater monitoring wells, as well as routine air and wastewater monitoring programs. A network of recycling programs is also overseen by our environment department to minimize off-site waste and reduce landfill contributions.
Our corporate social responsibility
In the steel manufacturing industry, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is crucial as it reduces carbon emissions, mitigates the environmental impact, and fosters sustainability. It is through these CSR initiatives that AltaSteel aims to foster trust among stakeholders and attract socially conscious partners. By actively addressing social and environmental concerns, AltaSteel will contribute to the overall well-being of the community in which we operate and demonstrate a commitment to ethical business practices.
AltaSteel is a proud member of the Strathcona Industrial Association (SIA), a voluntary business organization that was formed in 1974 and works with communities and government agencies to promote a safe and healthy working and living environment in and around areas where member companies operate. As part of the SIA mandate, members operate an ambient air monitoring network, ensure emergency preparedness and land planning, and increase awareness of the industry in the community through a number of community awareness programs, including emergency response procedures. We are proud to be an employer with a rich local history and strong relations with our community.”
