Senior Scalehouse Operator
AltaSteel is looking for a detail oriented and customer focused individual to join the logistics teams as a Scalehouse Operator. Reporting to the Logistics Manager, the Scalehouse Operator works in a fast-paced industrial environment and must be well spoken and highly detail oriented. The incumbent is the first point of contact for all drivers delivering recycled scrap steel and for all drivers picking up product that is to be delivered to our customers. The Scalehouse Operator must provide a high level of customer service with customers and logistics companies, maintaining professionalism at all times. In addition, the incumbent would enjoy working closely with colleagues and forming new working relationships daily with external stakeholders and internal departments.
Responsibilities:
- Direct, scale and ticket all inbound and outbound rail cars and trucks

Identifies the materials incoming and leaving and records items, customer and billing information into the applicable software.
- Identifies and records, materials confirming weight scale receipts with various information such as vehicle license number, Bill of Lading, material type, and collects signatures

Works closely with customers to schedule loads and returns. Provides various communication to logistics providers
- Daily verbal communication – in person and radio communication
- Daily data entry into site specific computer programs

Follows procedures for radiation alarms and reporting
- Adapt to and problem solve scenarios as they arise
- Follows and adheres to OH&S safety regulations and performs work safely in compliance with all facility Health and Safety requirements.

Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Scalehouse Operator
- Rail way, Dispatcher or Shipper/Receiver will be considered an asset
- Proficient computer skills and ability to learn new software programs
- Strong safety and customer service mindset
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong English written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work in close quarters with colleagues
- An excellent eye for detail and good judgement
Job Details:
- Full-time, permanent position located in an industrial setting of Edmonton, Alberta
- 8-hour days plus required overtime
